When Your Business Isn't Working, Try a Different Direction

Jul 17, 2026

John 2 (KJV)

And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee;

And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

And there were set there six waterpots of stone

Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, he knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew)

Somewhere out there, there’s a small black fly.
Stuck in the window.

“Burning out the last of it short life’s energies in a futile attempt to fly through the glass of the windowpane. The whining wings tell the poignant story of the fly’s strategy– try harder.

But it’s not working.

It’s impossible for the fly to try hard enough to succeed at breaking through the glass.

But across the room, ten steps away, the door is open. Ten seconds of flying time and this small creature could reach the outside world it seeks.

Why doesn’t the fly try another approach? Something dramatically different?

What logic is there in continuing, until death, to see a breakthrough with ‘more of the same’?”

- Price Pritchett

I’m sharing this message in case it reaches one of you who needs a big hug and permission to try something “drastically different.”

I needed the same wakeup call myself.

You may have noticed me rolling out some “drastically different” measures in my business in the past few months.

(Or you maybe you haven't noticed at all but sometimes I feel like people are watching my business with a microscope even though they’re definitely not)

If you feel like the fly buzzing into the window

Burnt out. Exhausted. Frustrated. Confused.

I need to to hear this.

The problem isn’t *you*

The problem is the window.

(Or at least that’s what I really needed to hear.)

The problem isn’t that your wings are broken or that your ideas aren’t good or that you can’t figure this out or that nothing works out for you.

This turned out to not be your window.

And maybe you’ve been trying for long enough that you have evidence now that you can say, “Let me try flying in a different direction.”

I'm seeing lots of conversations online about fears around AI

Fears of demand shifting, fears of the need for educational offers to decrease, fears about the need for service offers to be replaced.

I don't have answers to any of those things because I'm curious about a lot of those things myself.

But what I've found for myself is more time spent on my knees asking God for even more guidance and direction.

The last time I was on my knees this much praying about my business was when I was in the early early stages of Poppyseed Play.

But here's what I know without a doubt.

Jesus can literally turn water into wine.

But the idea to turn the water into wine

was Mary's idea.

He listens to your prayers about how to make your business work.

He listens to your prayers asking for guidance about what to try differently.

If He's interested in a caterer not looking bad at a party because they ran out of wine,

And He's interested in the people in the party getting what they want (a fun, easy night of celebrating)

I can say with confidence that He's interested in whatever you're working on right now.

He WANTS you to succeed.

And He has miraculous ways of making that happen up His sleeves.

So "Fear not, little flock."

What an EXCITING time to be a business owner!!!
