[0:08] Podcast. Oh, hey, welcome back to the podcast. I love having you here. Thanks so much for listening. No matter where you're listening from, your car, washing dishes, out on a walk, whatever you're up to, I love being in your ears. So thanks so much for clicking on this episode and listening today. I think you're going to love this episode. This is inspired by a poll that I put in my stories where I asked you about your thoughts about making 10K months. This is kind of like, it's kind of like a buzzword-y milestone, 10K months. Everyone is kind of like, that's the ultimate goal or that's one of the first goals, right? That kind of opens the door, opens the path to even higher income months. So I wanted to make an entire podcast episode about this topic because it seems that a lot of women in my audience are almost intimidated or scared of even thinking that that's possible. It feels out of reach. It feels out of your league. It feels like you're not qualified, like that's not possible for you or like some kind of crazy miracle would have to happen in order for you to make 10k per month consistently.
[1:18] And this is what's so cool about this community that we've created because it's very realistic and there There are women in this community doing this very successfully, and there are women in this community doing far more than 10K months. So what I wanted to speak to first is that I am very passionate about surrounding myself with women who are making more money than I am.
[1:42] Not because making more money is better, not because life all of a sudden becomes magical and mystical when you make more money, but I do have big income goals. And so I am always very intentionally putting myself in spaces where I know I am the smallest earner in the room and so no matter what income level you're currently at it doesn't really matter to me it's actually not that interesting to me I'm more interested in where you are heading what you are aiming for so because I have big income goals I follow a lot of coaches and impact creators who are talking about making months that are far bigger than 10k months. Some of them are talking about making 30k months, 50k months, 100k months, 200k months. And like I said, I follow these people very intentionally because I want to normalize that conversation in my brain. I want making big income months, big in quotes, right? Because that's very subjective. I want it to feel kind of neutral in my brain. Like, yes, this is acceptable. Yes, this is an option that's possible. It's not that crazy. It's not out of reach. If someone else has accomplished it, that means it's just as possible and available to me.
[2:57] But I just for a second want to come back down to wherever you currently are. And let's just talk about this 10k per month amount.
[3:07] I really just want to like soak in that miracle, you know, instead of skipping over 10K and going straight to 20, 30, 50K months, which is awesome. And I'm totally a fan of that. I just for a second want to really drink in the miracle of making 10 grand a month from your phone. It is an absolute miracle that this opportunity is available to us. And like I said, I really hope after this episode, if 10k months feel like crazy town to you, which most of you told me in the Instagram poll that that does feel crazy to you. And that's why we're having this conversation.
[3:48] But first, I just want to like, I actually Googled this. As of April 2024, the average salary for a woman in the United States who works full time is $53,404. And also mentioned, which is 16.5% less than the average salary for a male, which is $63,000, about $10,000 more. Can we just talk about how crazy town this is that we're talking about? When I say making $10,000 a month, that's equivalent of making $120,000 per year. And depending what your expenses are, the amount of that that will actually land in your pocket will fluctuate and is different for all of us because we all have different expenses that we're currently utilizing to help us create more income. But like, wow. Sometimes I like to to just stop and think about myself as a girl in college. And I remember very distinctly this conversation I had with my roommate, who I adore. And she was planning on studying nursing, working as a nurse until she had babies and then quitting her nursing job. And she and I were having this conversation about, you know, this just our dreams and plans for the future.
[4:55] And I was sharing with her how ever since I was little, I've always wondered if it could be possible to make money and still be an amazing mom because I wasn't willing to not be a mom. I had big dreams and goals of being a parent too, right? But I was like, no one's really talking about how this could be possible. Everyone's saying you have to pick one or the other. Everyone's saying, go get your education, but then plan on staying home with your babies. Get your education so that if your husband is incapacitated and unable to work, then you can go back to work. But I was I was like, what if I want to just get my education because I want to be educated, right? And so, and looking back now, I also, when I was in college, downloaded Instagram for the very first time.
[5:41] It's just so fascinating to me to look back now because my entire income is because of Instagram. It's because of this crazy wild app that's so simple and so complicated at the same time. And so I want to just go back to freshman at BYU, Kaylynn, and give her a hug and be like, you're not going to believe this, but that question that you're asking right now, is it possible for someone, a woman, to be able to make a sizable income without working full-time without sacrificing time with her family?
[6:13] The answer will become yes because of these technologies that are going to be made available that aren't or are very in their early stages right now. It's just the craziest miracle and I never want that to be lost on me. I never want it to be lost on you. And there is absolutely a season when in our marriage that amount of money has completely changed everything for us. And that amount of money was not available to us at the time. And so I have so much contrast and gratitude for seasons in our lives where we were living on a single income or basically a single income or where we were working hourly jobs without benefits and things like that. And so, like I said, I just don't want to skip over the 10k month milestone because what a crazy blessing what a crazy cool opportunity so with that being said I also do want to talk about making that 10k number very real in your mind.
[7:19] Especially if it feels right now out of reach or unnecessary or even maybe a little bit greedy like I wouldn't even know what to do with that much money per month I just want to open up your mind to some possibilities to loosen up the constraint, the constriction that you feel about increasing your income. Because in my experience, the number one thing that has increased my income is just shifting the conversation happening in my brain.
[7:47] To make it super normal and not that crazy.
[7:51] Let's talk about the science of actually making 10k a month so that you can see how very possible it is.
[7:57] Here's my take that I actually think that making 10k per month is way simpler than our brains make it. It seems like crazy. It seems like it's going to be super hard, like it's going to require something impossible or at least require a ton of hard work. And I'm not here saying that it is something you can just sit on your couch and it just manifests and just lands in your lap. But it is work and it is sometimes hard work and a lot of the hardness of the work is often wrapped up in our mental drama, right? But let's talk about making 10K super real. So first I'm gonna talk about the math because a lot of clients I work with come to me and they'll be like, Caitlin, I'm so pressured that I'm not making 10K a month. And I'll be like, okay, first, first, before we do anything else, let's just play with the math to make sure or at least see if the current offers that you have available at the current price points that you are selling them at, if you were to sell 10 grand of those offers, would it be possibly feasible for you to be able to deliver the services or offers or things that you are selling at that rate? And if it's not feasible, then that's our first thing. That's the first reason why you're not hitting 10K months. And it's not because you're not good at what you do. And it's not because you're not an amazing genius, just because the math hasn't mathed yet. And that's the best news ever.
[9:15] So something that I like to think of with 10K as well, something else that really helped shift this in my brain was that when I thought about making 10K months years ago, I was thinking about it in terms of like, I'm going to have to come out and sell 10 grand worth of stuff, every single month. I'm going to have to be marketing so hard. I'm going to have to be selling like super expensive packages or selling super high volume stuff, but I don't really want to sell super high ticket stuff. And I don't really have an audience to sell super high volume stuff. And so I was like, I just don't see how this works. Right. But something that's really helped break this down for me is thinking about 10K months in terms of layers in my income.
[9:57] Instead of thinking, I have to go out and sell 10 grand worth of services this month. It's like, no, I'm just going to create multiple layers of recurring revenue in my income. And huge emphasis on the recurring part, because I've definitely been through seasons where I didn't lean into recurring income. And so what I really was doing was shouldering the weight of selling 10 grand worth of stuff every month. And it's possible. It's just a lot of work. And recurring income is really cool. So let me give you some examples. I have multiple layers in my income right now. I have layers of income that come from my private clients who usually sign on for a certain number of months and they pay a monthly amount. I have recurring income from the greenhouse where ladies join for $97. They join for six months. And so the volume of people that join multiplied by 97 is my monthly recurring revenue from the greenhouse. Then I have another layer of revenue that comes from my new program, the Launch Crew, and there will probably be other layers in the future, but ultimately I want to make those, expand those layers more. That's basically my big goal for hitting higher income months.
[11:10] So instead of thinking, how do I sell 10 grand worth of stuff? I want you to think, how can I sell an offer that would create, let's just say three grand per month for the next six months. For me, that feels so much more doable, or it did, especially when, you know, I was very early on in this experience of selling offers and creating offers and raising prices and all those things.
[11:32] So that's how I want you to think about 10k months instead of like this big chunk every month. I want you to think of it as layers that span across multiple months and aiming for creating 10k months of recurring revenue instead of just 10k months because it's a different energy. It's a different game plan.
[11:51] Like, for example, if you wanted to have a 10K month and you are selling a six-month coaching package that's 10 grand and you sold it and someone paid in full today, well, that's a 10K month, which is killer and that's amazing. But now your revenue is $0 for the five months after that, which might be fine with you. But for me, I am really like very intentionally working on creating a floor in my income that it never drops below because I've experienced having the high highs and the low lows and the stress of trying to stabilize those. And so recurring monthly revenue is the answer to all of those problems. So now that we have hopefully created the possibility of an offer that you can match by thinking about your offers in terms of layers of recurring revenue, I also wanna talk about raising your prices because if you are selling a certain package or offer or program at a certain price, you can work backwards into knowing either the price or knowing how many people you want to serve once you have that 10k goal. So let me give you an example. I'm thinking of the ladies inside my program right now, the launch crew, where right now they're working on creating offers.
[13:00] That are very intentionally designed to hit their revenue goals. For most of them or many of them, they want to have a 10k launch. And so we're working backwards into their prices and into the number of people that they need to have inside once we have that 10k goal. So it's just simple division, right? And so if you feel like you have the availability to have, let's just say, 10 ladies inside a program, well, you could charge them $1,000 a month and that would equal 10K months, right? It's just basic math. But really the two data points that you have to play with are the price and the number of people that you want to serve at a given time.
[13:39] Next, let's talk about the who, because everything will change in your business when you shift your dream person that you love to serve away from anyone who will pay me. That was my ideal client for a little while, and so I can really speak to this. If your ideal client right now is anyone who will pay, that is the first shift that we need to make. We need you to shift into to serving a girl with a specific problem that she is anxiously awaiting and searching for and seeking for help with because it will be so much easier to sell your offers. I've definitely sold offers before that were very fluffy and unclear and the transformation was not something that she was anxiously looking for a solution for. Let's have a quick conversation about niches along with this because it's basically the same conversation, right? Your ideal client equals your niche equals your audience. They're all synonymous in my mind. So let's talk about a niche. How do you find a niche that works without limiting yourself?
[14:45] So here are a couple of questions that have really helped me. One is, if I could snap my fingers and just get you a client that you would absolutely be obsessed to serve and it has to be someone who you know personally who would that person be, what problems would she basically be hiring you to help her solve? That's a Clayton Christensen quote that I really love. Basically, he says, any offer or product or thing that you buy, you are basically hiring that thing or person or coach or service provider or whoever. You're basically hiring that person to fix something for you. So what is that thing that you're going to fix for her? One of my other questions is, if someone was talking about me behind my back in positive ways, how would I want them to talk about me? And what would they say if the conversation turned to, oh my gosh, you should follow my friend Kaylynn.
[15:41] She da da da da basically that is your niche. If someone can explain like, oh, Kaylynn is the girl who helps me with fill in the blank and tell their girlfriends and tell their husband and tell anyone, that's how you know you have a niche. And I see so many coaches playing with this and kind of like putting one foot in and one foot out on this. So that's why I want to call it out. But this can be so tricky as a coach, right? Because the tools and techniques that we have can help anyone. And so it can feel limiting for a coach to be like, you've got to pick one person, but I promise you it will help your messaging resonate so much better. It will help your content resonate better? That's another question that I really like. If I created a piece of content for the girl in my niche, for the girl whose problems I know I can help solve, and I just created a reel and she happened to see it in her feed, even though she has no idea who I am, the chances of her actually coming to follow and being interested in what I'm creating are so much higher when it speaks so directly and so clearly to her instead of being like, live your best life. Stop being a perfectionist. I'm thinking about a conversation that I had in Facebook group a couple weeks ago with a woman who was struggling with her messaging and I just kind of chimed in to help with some things and she was like well my niche is helping perfectionists.
[17:00] And I was kind of like well with what right is there like a specific season of life these are more questions that you can use to help you identify your niche is there a specific season of life that she's in where she feels like she's particularly struggling with perfectionism is there a specific transition that she's in the middle of that she wants help with is there a relationship that she frequently finds herself battling perfectionism because the tricky thing about a niche that's that unclear is that if you create content and say hey perfectionists I can help you most likely the ones who are perfectionists are gonna be like that's not me and they're gonna scroll past right because they haven't identified as a perfectionist yet but if you say instead hey everyone who has a complicated relationship with their in-laws this is a way that I can help you.
[17:49] Can you see how it calls in the person who you can help in a way where it's like, oh, yeah, I have that problem. You can give her help with perfectionism once she's inside your program. I like to talk about this like selling the broccoli versus selling the chocolate. Like the thing that she really wants help with is her strained relationship with her in-laws or her extended family. And when you're selling perfectionism as the solution, that's the broccoli. That's the thing that she really, really needs. it's really good for her, but she's not like shopping for it. She's not like seeking it out and searching for it. And so that's why people keep scrolling past your content. Okay. The next thing I want to talk about, well, I'm actually not really going to talk about it here is the messaging because I talk about it a lot, but I'm also going to be doing a live training called Master Your Messaging,
[18:37] which will be published as an entire podcast all by itself next week. I really want to dive into the specifics of the messaging and not just like, here's some good ideas of things to improve your messaging, I want to like workshop it with you in real time. And I want you to hear me workshopping it with clients as well. And women who are actively seeking clients and looking for paying clients and trying to create sales through their Instagram content. So asterisk on the messaging box for today, because I'm going to dive into it next week on the podcast.
[19:07] And then finally, I've already mentioned this a little bit, but just normalizing 10K in your mind. Did you wake up this morning thinking, oh, I make 10K months and it's not a big deal. If you didn't, that's probably why you're not making them. And so it's one of my favorite identity shifts to play with is like, first, I think it's almost
[19:25] like a bridge that we have to walk over, right? Because sometimes just like, oh yeah, I could totally make 10k months and it's not a big deal. Feels like a big leap in our brain. So it feels a little bit hard for our brain to get on board, but we can sort of break it down into baby steps. This is like the actual technique you can use to install any new belief. So here are some stepping stones I I would recommend for installing this new belief. I am a leader. I have important things to say, I think would be number one. If that feels untrue to you, then of course being someone who makes a significant amount of income from your work is going to feel really hard to believe. I'm a leader. I have important things to say. The work that I do with my clients is very valuable. It's worth worth more than the amount that they pay for it times 10.
[20:13] This is one of my favorites. I am a marketer. That was one that like came to me just a couple of years ago when I had so much resistance to calling myself a marketer. It felt like I should wait for someone else to say that I'm really good at marketing first. But instead, I just chose to believe that I'm a really good marketer. And you have the option to just choose to start to believe that too. Some other ones that I'll add, making 10k a month is easy. Making 10k a month is not a big deal. Making 10k a month would be really good for our family. Making 10k a month would be really good for my clients.
[20:47] It would make the world a better place. There's nothing bad that can come from me making 10k a month. Your brain might question you on that one, especially because this is probably past your upper limit. And so your brain actually might be saying there might be something bad that would happen. And so just make a note and start to journal about some of these questions that you can tease out where the blockage is. And then finally, like the furthest side of the bridge, I think is I make 10k a month and I just wake up in the morning thinking that and feeling that and believing that and it doesn't feel like a big deal.
[21:21] Okay before I go I want to give you just a couple more questions for your own personal reflections that you can really start to set your mind on this goal if it feels exciting or expansive or fun to you. I want to give you some actual self-reflection questions that you can start to journal about and ask yourself so that you can start to you normalize this conversation in your heart and in your mind. So one of my favorite sayings is what got you here won't get you there. So if you're already making a couple thousand, a few thousand dollars a month in revenue and you're looking at the 10k mark, like how, how, how does that happen?
[21:57] One of my favorite truths is that what got you here won't get you there. And so sometimes that just, I like to remind myself that to show my brain that there might be something that I haven't tried yet. If I'm making a couple thousand a month and I'm feeling a little bit burnt out, my schedule's a little bit overbooked, I don't really feel like I have a lot of extra time to market or to create offers or to have creativity come through, then it's like an invitation. Like, okay, what else do I need to create space for so that the idea, so that the clarity, so that the path to my goal can come to me? And I really also like this truth that there's something that's different about the current version of you versus the 10k version of you and so these questions will help you figure out the difference so number one is there anything different about the girl who makes 10k per month versus the current version of you.
[22:50] Is she more bold? It sounds kind of weird to talk about she because it's still you, but we're talking like future tense, right? Is she more bold? Is she more self-assured? Is she less self-conscious? Is she less afraid to be seen? Does she speak up more? Does she have stronger opinions? Does she say her opinions with clarity and competence? I mean, I guess it's probably yes to all of those. And if any of those feel different than the current version of you, this is just a really cool invitation to decide what you want to start working on so that you can become the version of you that makes $10K a month right now.
[23:29] Next, is there anything that she's doing that you're not currently doing? Is she launching more frequently? Is she having more conversations? Is she charging more? Is she speaking to a more specific audience? Is she pitching herself to be on podcasts? Is she attending networking events? Is she hosting networking events? A lot of these questions are things that I've been playing with recently, which is why I've shifted a lot of things in my business model recently, because I've realized that the version of Kaylynn that makes the amount of income that I want to make is doing some of the things that I'm not doing right now. And so I can start to be her by doing those things right now. So those are some of mine. Third, is there anything that she's not doing that you are currently doing. For example, what does her weekly calendar look like? What kind of clients does she work with? How many clients does she work with? Is there support that she's hired that you haven't hired yet? This is actually my favorite. Is there any busy work that you're accidentally filling your calendar with that needs to go? That is the biggest culprit I find to women's income I'm getting stuck is that when they put things on their calendar or they sell these offers or create packages and programs that are basically accidentally busy work.
[24:49] Where it takes a lot of their time, it takes a lot of their effort, and totally by accident, they sell out their time and their availability for a lower rate. And it fills up all the free time on your calendar that you would need if you wanted to serve more clients, or if you wanted to serve clients at a higher rate, or you wanted to serve clients with more proximity and more support. Is there any busy work that you're accidentally filling your calendar with that needs to go? I know I have had some recently and so that's a call out to myself and just really good for my brain to be aware of that my brain does like to overbook myself with low ticket offers by accident fourth and lastly is there anything that needs to change about who you serve I think we've pretty much hit this one pretty well today but some more questions to drum up some more clarity inside of you. Are the clients the 10k version of you works with the same as the clients you are currently working with? If not, what's the difference? Who are the clients that she works with? Who are the clients who are not a good fit for her work?
[25:59] Some of my favorite questions to help self-reflect and help really paint the picture. Instead of your brain thinking like, I should be making more than I am? Why am I not? It can really help to draw the distinction between what's currently happening right now, what would need to happen in order for more revenue and sales to flow into your life. And instead of it being like something where you go judge yourself and feel like crap about it, this can be a really freeing, beautifully comforting exercise because it's like, oh, that's why I haven't made 10K. It's not because I'm terrible and I bet it what I do. It's just because fill in the blank with all the reasons, right? And I like to paint the distinction between the current version of Kaylin versus the version that makes my income goals. What's the difference? And once I can really tease it out, then it gives me a clear path forward and shows me exactly what I need to work on and change.
[26:55] I hope you love this episode. I love having these conversations to normalize higher income months. And like I said, I want you to set a goal to intentionally put yourself in rooms where you are the lowest earner, where everyone is making more money than you, because it will help your brain start to see these higher income opportunities as less crazy, as less out there. It will help your brain start to see that it's possible in general, and then it will start to feel and think and believe that it's possible for you. And then your brain will go to work making it your reality. I hope you love this episode. I'll see you guys next week. Hey, I hope you loved this week's episode.
