30-day Book of Mormon Marketing Challenge
===
[00:00:00]
Kaelynn Priest: People ask me sometimes, "Can I see the behind-the-scenes of what your actual Scripture study process looks like?" And I'm gonna share exactly what it is today, but I'm just gonna warn you in advance, you might be a little bit disappointed because I don't have any magical formula for studying the Scriptures.
In fact, I don't often even read chapters in order. Actually, recently, most days my Scripture study looks like I will let my Scriptures fall open to a random page and start reading. I think for me, that kind of helps my brain feel like this isn't something I have to keep track of. It removes a lot of the decision fatigue of like, "What am I gonna study today?"
It's like I just know I'm gonna open my Scriptures and read and find something great. And I'll be totally honest, some days I don't find the thing that I feel like I really want to find that day, so sometimes I'll read the Scriptures and listen to a conference talk. Or some days I don't, I'm not able to just sit at my desk or in my bed and read my Scriptures, so [00:01:00] I'll just listen to a conference talk in the car.
So it looks a little bit different every day. Hopefully that's not disappointing to hear, but I also hope that it gives you a little bit of freedom to be like, "Oh, good, it doesn't have to look any certain way. It's not supposed to. It can look however I want it to look." With that being said, though, something that I've been doing for years that I've never really distilled into a process until now is that I do often get content ideas while I'm reading my Scriptures Which sounds a little bit weird because I, my brain before this didn't often put marketing and the Book of Mormon even in the same sentence.
But I wanna show you how I do it, and also invite you to my 30-day Book of Mormon marketing challenge that opens in the next couple of weeks. Actually, the kickoff will be Tuesday, August 25th. And I'm gonna walk you through in detail how to start using your scripture study, specifically in the Book of [00:02:00] Mormon, for this challenge to help you create amazing marketing content.
So as a little behind-the-scenes note about this, I was debating if I should even include this in the episode, but I think it's u- useful for business owners, which is that part of what prompted this is about a month ago, I was going through kind of doing a journaling exercise about products, offers that I've sold in the past, and just reminding my brain about how many different random things I've sold over the years.
And one of the offers that I sold almost five years ago was, I called it an Instagram for Etsy challenge, where I gave people prompts for what to post for their Etsy business on Instagram. And I was going back through, like, the, assets that I created for it, the Canva graphics and the setup in my Kajabi system, and was remembering, wow, that sold really well.
I should have done [00:03:00] that a lot of times. I only ran it one time. I should have run ads to that. I probably could've done really well if I'd stuck with that. Um, so the reason I'm sharing that is because my brain has a tendency to overcomplicate things, and I wonder if yours does too, where my brain will actually move away from the things that feel the easiest and move towards the things that feel hardest.
Because of some of my beliefs that I've been really working on, which is that business is supposed to be hard. It's hard to make money. You have to work super, super hard if you want to make a lot of money. And retraining my brain over and over and over again, this, I've been doing this for, like, four years.
This is not something I've outgrown yet. Really reteaching my brain, you don't have to work super hard to make a lot of money. It's easy to make money. And You don't have to earn it or prove anything by killing yourself by absolutely overworking. [00:04:00] That is kind of my default pattern that luckily I'm super aware of.
Like I said, if this feels like a... This is not a huge... Well, it, it is kind of a tangent, but it's supposed to feel like if, if you feel the same way, I just want to invite you to reflect on the last couple of months, and are there any places where you may have accidentally been making things more difficult than they need to?
Have you actually stumbled across something that works really well, but your brain is resisting repeating it? Which is the super simple way to make a lot of money, and instead let it be simple. Let it be easy. Rinse and repeat. Do the same thing a- again. Post the same content again. Run the same offer again.
A lot of times we feel like if, if it's repetitive, that's a bad thing, but what I've actually found in marketing is that repetition is where the magic happens. So I just wanted to share that in the beginning. Now, back to the Book of Mormon Marketing Challenge [00:05:00] What I really would love for this experience to feel like for you is to feel like you can finally connect your scripture reading, prayerful time that you spend on a daily basis and connect it to your business.
I want it to feel like if you feel a little bit of a disconnect between your business and your relationship with the Savior or with Heavenly Father, that this feels like a little bridge to bridge the gap just a little bit. Also additionally, I wanna teach you how to create really good marketing. I wanna teach you how to create content that people engage with, that they remember, that they come back to over and over and over, that stands out to them, that stops the scroll.
I wanna teach you how to create content that gets people to buy stuff And I wanna teach you how to sell confidently in your marketing without apology, without feeling weird. You might actually find that it feels really, really good to promote the offers that you sell. And what I [00:06:00] find for most business owners is that we often think that we're selling all the time.
Like, in our brains, any time you put out a post, we're, like, mentally selling. But what your audience most likely needs to hear from you is more offers, more invitations to buy, more reminders about what you sell. Even if you feel like, "I've talked about this a million times," they need reminders. And this, n- not to brag, this is something I've gotten really, really good at, and have gotten pretty good at being unapologetic about, and was reminded about this with just the last couple of weeks I've been working on this Dreaming with God workshop and selling tickets for it.
Literally the morning of the workshop, I was getting messages from people like, "Hey, what's this Dreaming with God workshop?" Even though I'd talked about it every day for a month. Like, a literal post every single day, and I aimed to put an invita- like, a sales invitation, a link to buy, a link to join in my stories every single day.[00:07:00]
Which was, again, another reminder to me that you could talk about something 100 times and you will still have people being like, "What is this? I missed this. How do I join? How do I buy this?" For a lot of different reasons. One, the algorithm. People aren't seeing your stuff that you post every single day.
It's actually a very small portion of your audience that sees what you post on a given day. Two, people may have seen it and totally forgotten about it. Three, people may have seen it and wanted to buy, and then got distracted because they have a lot of other things going on in their day. Or four, they may not have even joined your audience until the day before.
So just remind your brain, if it feels like you're talking about it a lot, if it feels like you are repeating yourself, you are doing it right. That's the goal. But to make it a little bit more fun for you and for your audience, we can talk about it from a lot of different angles. We can talk about the same thing a lot of different ways, which is one of my hopes from this marketing challenge.
That you will not only connect your scripture reading to your business, [00:08:00] your spiritual life to your temporal life, but also learn how to create more compelling content, which will result in more sales, which I am very interested in for you. So what's gonna happen during these 30 days? I want you to become a better content creator.
I want you to become a better storyteller. I want you to post more consistently, and I wanna obviously help your marketing generate more revenue. And like I said, all the other, the other- second goal that I have for this challenge, which is to get your head in the scriptures, to get your eyes in the Book of Mormon, get in the habit of reading every single day, specifically from the Book of Mormon.
Read your Old Testament too in term- for Come, Follow Me this year. But I do have a strong, strong testimony, and we've been given lots of promises, as you know, about the power of the Book of Mormon, and I want that in my business. I don't know about you Um, and I want you to really start to feel what it feels like for God to [00:09:00] guide your business, for God to lead your marketing, and to get marketing ideas from prayer, from heaven.
So why the Book of Mormon for this challenge? I don't wanna call the Book of Mormon a marketing book 'cause it's n- not necessarily, but it is full of amazing examples of how to move people, how to get people to do something. How do people... How to get people to do something different than they've done before, how to inspire change, how to inspire action, how to get someone to change their mind about something.
All of that is the goal of marketing. So the Book of Mormon has tons of examples of storytelling, of how to communicate clearly, how to give invri- invitations, how to help people trust you, how to be a leader, how to give and serve. And so we're [00:10:00] gonna look at those principles throughout the Book of Mormon, and then turn it into, how can you practice that principle in your business today?
By, you know, one simple way that I can help you create change in your business is by figuring out what to post today. So every single day, you're going to get a storytelling challenge, and it's gonna look something like... I'm gonna send you, I'm gonna give you a prompt that's gonna say, "Tell a story about fill in the blank."
The way that this challenge is gonna go is you're... after you purchase, you're gonna get a link to follow a private Instagram account where this challenge is gonna be hosted. And so you're gonna follow that private account. I will grant you access, and then every day when I post the, the, the post with the challenge inside the carousel, you'll be able to see it.
You'll be reminded about it. You can even comment below if you have a question about it or comment and report back that, check, you did your marketing for the [00:11:00] day. So all this is gonna be happening inside a private Instagram account. And I'm gonna give you a specific chapter from the Book of Mormon to read.
I'm going to give you an idea or options of things to look for as you read, then I'm gonna teach you about what that marketing principle is for you to apply in your marketing, and then I'm gonna give you three content ideas in the form of three hooks that you could use to create a post about. It could be a carousel that you could create with just photos that are in your photo gallery right now.
It could be a carousel that you create with Canva. That's my least favorite way 'cause that always takes the longest. It could be a, a reel that you create with using one of the hook ideas. I don't care in what form you create the content. The goal is just that you post something today. And then another part of what I really hope happens as a result of this is yes, you're gonna get your head in your scriptures, yes, you're gonna be praying about [00:12:00] your business and about marketing ideas.
Hopefully God's able to slip in some other ideas or inspiration for you. But also, it's really useful when you start to train your own brain to recognize stories that are happening around you so that you can translate those into content. A quick word about storytelling content in 2026. Storytelling content is the way to get people's attention in 2026.
In 2022, 2023, the way to get people's attention was by education. It was providing value, it was teaching, giving tips, tricks, hacks. Not that that's not useful in 2026, but it's really e- really easy for AI to replicate that in 2026. And so these days I am almost never sharing tips, tricks, or hacks I, I should say almost never.
It kind of depends on your niche, but what I am posting every single day is stories. Stories about my own life, [00:13:00] stories about my experience, stories about my past, stories about what happened with my kids yesterday that was funny, a story about a conversation that I had with Nate, a story that I had with a, a DM conversation that I had with someone, with a client, with a customer.
All of those interactions you can turn into storytelling content, and the reason why that's super important is that AI cannot replicate that kind of content, which is good news for us. That's how we create content that stands out, because everybody else is using A- AI to create their content. It's also really good news for you because when you start to tell stories about where you've come from, it will help people trust you more.
When they see what you've been through, what you've overcome, what you've figured out, what you've learned, expertise that you've gained. When you start sharing the wins that you've had, the results that you created, their trust in you is gonna go through the roof, as it should, because you have actually done the thing that you're saying that you can help people do.
This is not manipulation. This is not a sales [00:14:00] tactic. This is just you being your honest to goodness self, and when you share about it, people will want to be closer to you. People will want to be closer to your offers, to your products, whatever it is that you're selling right now. Another quick side note.
When you get these prompts, the hooks I'm going to invite you to share will not be like... I'm not gonna be asking you to share content from the Book of Mormon in your content. I wanna make that super clear. I'm not asking you to turn into an LDS influencer for a month. This is going to be me teaching you the principle, the marketing principle from the Book of Mormon, like communication, like persuasion, and lear- using that principle to create marketing from.
So everything will be you, your story customized to your niche, customized to your audience. You don't need to be all of a sudden sharing about how you are LDS if that's not what you're creating content about right now. So don't worry about that. No fears. If you wanna share about what you've learned from the Book of Mormon, amazing.
Please do so. The world needs more of that, but don't feel like you have to [00:15:00] And finally, let me give you a quick peek at day one of the marketing challenge. So you're going to get access to... I might als- also grant access to a little PDF or spreadsheet that has every single day in it so that you just have quick access to it.
But like I said, you are for sure gonna be joining the private Instagram feed, um, that I will be posting to every single day with your, the challenge for the day, the scripture section to read, the marketing principle, and three hooks that you can use to turn into a piece of content for yourself. So for example, day one of the marketing challenge is gonna look like this.
Your storytelling challenge for the day is going to be to tell your origin story. Tell a story about the moment or a problem or an experience or a series of events that led you to start your business and why you deeply care about the problem that you solve. You're gonna be invited to read 1 Nephi 2.[00:16:00]
And as you read, I'm gonna invite you to look for details that will help you understand why Lehi's family left Jerusalem, what they left behind, and what motivated them to go. Because when you start to see and get into the details of why it was important for Lehi/Nephi to include that inside the Book of Mormon, you're also going to find, oh, I'm really glad we know that backstory because it makes me value what they overcame.
It makes me value where they, how they were able to get to the promised land, because it was such a challenging journey for them. And that is basically the marketing principle that I want you to learn that day, or you could al- even call it psychology. Origin stories help create meaning for people. It helps people understand you and your business better when they understand what caused it to exist.
And when we give them a [00:17:00] concrete story about where it began, it's gonna give your, your story some credentials. It's gonna give us something to hang onto. It'll be easier for us to remember. It's easier for us to connect to. And it's also gonna help your customers connect to the problem that you solve because they will see it as something that you...
a problem that you are here to serve, a problem that you are here to help solve instead of just something that you're here to sell. And then finally, let me just tell you what the three post, uh, the post hooks will be. Here's one example. "I never planned to start a business doing this, but..." Fill in the blank.
Here's number two. "This whole business started because of one problem I couldn't stop thinking about." Here's hook number three. "If you had told me," excerpt, insert number of years ago, X number of years ago, "that this would become the work I would be doing every day, I wouldn't have believed you." See how it's like a scroll-stopping hook, and then creates the perfect little prompt for your brain to be like, "Okay, let me tell a story about how I actually [00:18:00] started my business.
How did I get here? What was it? What did it look like? Was there a specific date when the idea landed in my head, or was it something that transpired over several months?" You get to use your amazing creativity and the inspiration of the Spirit to help you turn that into a piece of post. Into a post, whether it's a content, whether it's a carousel, whether it's a reel, doesn't matter to me.
But I do wanna challenge you to be super intentional about this, and you might even set it, set aside 10 to 15 minutes and give yourself that limit. Like, "I'm just gonna post whatever I can create in 10 to 15 minutes." You're gonna learn how to simplify your content a lot. You're gonna learn how to pull stories out of your brain you've maybe never even articulated before, and turn it into a piece of content, because you are going to find that people are gonna resonate with this so much more than anything else.
I know I do. When I think about the pieces of content that I'm remembering or thinking about that stand out to me, it's usually s- a piece of content that I saw that made it feel like [00:19:00] I was a fly on the wall in their life, or that made it feel like I was peeking behind the curtain, or that I was able to be a little bit nosy, or, like, they let me see something raw or real or authentic.
That's what your audience is gonna remember. So finally, don't forget, this challenge kicks off on Tuesday, August 25th. If you're listening after this, hopefully I will have turned this challenge into an evergreen opportunity you can still get access to, even if you're listening past that point.
